Events and Festivals

Any day on the Shipwreck Coast can be special, but festivals and events make a visit truly memorable, and the Coast has plenty throughout the year!

Port Fairy Folk Festival

Internationally-known, the 'Folkie' in March attracts musicians, entertainers and thousands of music lovers from across the world for three days of music, parades, street fairs and impromptu entertainment.

Fun 4 Kids

Warrnambool's Fun 4 Kids avoids the June/July winter winds by hosting all its entertainment indoors, making it the largest indoor children's festival in the world. Well-known Children's authors, TV personalities and entertainers are just part of the fun.

Koroit Irish festival

Bringing a touch of the Emerald Isle to the coast at the beginning of May, the small town of Koroit celebrates its Irish heritage with songs, poetry, parades and street markets.

Wunta Fiesta

Food, wine, music and fun come together in Warrnambool for three fabulous days in February. Food stalls offer an incredible array of taste-tempting treats, with concerts and rock gigs providing great entertainment. There is even the chance to see local identities running through the street in their underwear, as they compete in the infamous 'Undie 500' - join in if you dare!

May Races

Furlongs and fashion come together in Warrnambool for the May racing carnival, which features the most difficult steeplechase event in the world.

Rhapsody in June

More laid-back than the Folk Festival, the Rhapsody is the perfect time to relax and unwind in Port Fairy, listening to great music while sampling delectable cafe offerings.

Portuguese Festival

Celebrating Portuguese culture in Australia, and a possible historical link via the mysterious Mahogany Ship, this February festival features a weekend of traditional dancing, food and family fun.

Cobden Spring Festival

Family entertainment, music, the chance to see some of the beautiful gardens of district homesteads make October a great time to visit Cobden and the Coast.

Agricultural Shows

District towns showcase the district's produce and industry, featuring parades of prize livestock, fiercely-competitive horse riding events, shearing and wood chopping competitions, craft and produce displays, and of course sideshow entertainment for the young and young-at-heart!
